Nothing could have predicted the meeting of a singer-violinist from the small Ukrainian town of Cherkassy with three French musicians, and yet... From Ukraine, Yuliia Vydovska crossed paths with Nello Dronne, Maxime Epp and Lucas Habe in Alsace. One day, in the course of their conversations, they took a traditional Ukrainian song and adapted it into a jazz version. Thus was born the idea of a repertoire mixing jazz and traditional Ukrainian music. The four artists immediately decided to explore this new direction. Their music is sensitive and lively, at times gentle, at times unpredictable, led by the beautiful Slavic voice of Yuliia Vydovska, the double bass of Lucas Habe, the drums of Maxime Epp and the piano of Nello Dronne. Sirocco takes audiences back to the roots of jazz. By revisiting the standards of the great names in the genre and playing with original arrangements, the septet develops tasty sounds and exhilarating melodies to swaying rhythms. The five musicians and two singers take you on a journey through time and space, from 30s swing to bebop and hard-bop, via bossa nova, gypsy jazz and Latin jazz.
