The 4 city gates

" Get lost in Rosheim, a little town that’s not very touristy, but is well known for its beautiful Romanesque church of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul, as well as for one of the oldest houses in Alsace. Be sure to discover its four gates and the remnants of its ramparts, reminders of the town’s past. "

Impressive vestiges of the two medieval walls, the monumental gates protected the city while signifying its importance. The Clock Tower, or "Zittgloeckel", is situated beyond the City Hall. With the School Tower, it formed part of the first fortifications, built in the early 13th century. A second rampart, built in the 13th and 14th centuries, featured 8 towers and 3 gates, of which the Low Gate, to the east, and the Lion Gate, to the north, still remain.
